So, I got home from Amsterdam and then came back up to good ol’ Provo to continue working. My family drove with me to drop off my brothers at EFY- Tanner at BYU and Conner at USU in Logan. Our friend Harry Levens from London also came and went to EFY with Conner. When their week was over my parents came back up and we all went together to the Oquirrh Mountain Temple for the open house. It was so pretty! I recently went to the Draper Temple open house and they are very similar. It was fun because we had the entire family there, all in the temple together.
The next week Jourdan’s friend Antonella (one of her mission companions) flew in from Italy to visit. She wanted to show her California and Disneyland, so I went with them and we left on Wednesday. We spent the night at our house and celebrated Tanner’s birthday, then we were off the next morning to So Cal. It was SUPER fun to listen to them talk the entire time in Italian…not really, which is why I slept for about half the drive. We stayed in Irvine with one of my mom’s friends, and we got there around 12. We then of course had to go to the store for beach supplies. We got a bunch of bonfire supplies and then took off to Huntington Beach to spend the rest of the day. After a nice nap in the sun (don’t worry, I didn’t get sunburned AT ALL because Jourdan slathered 100 SPF all over me) we roasted hot dogs and marshmallows on the fire.
The next day was Disneyland. We were joined by Antonella’s friend who decided to invite himself along. Sorry for the lack of pictures, but he was the photographer of the day and hasn’t send the pictures to us. Oh, I do have this attractive pic from the Buzz Lightyear Astro Blasters- they let you email it to yourself for free!

As you can see, I was very into it. But it was a fun day. We did all the staples like Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, Space Mountain, Pirates, and The Haunted Mansion. We ate at the Blue Bayou and got Monte Cristo sandwiches and mint juleps. We waited in line for a ride for over an hour. We took pictures by the sword in the stone. We rode the carousel. We ate Mickey Mouse-shaped ice cream. We watched the fireworks. And of course, we shopped at the end of the day. All in all a very classic Disneyland day.
The California trip was a blur- we left on Wednesday, drove there Thusday, and drove back all the way to Provo on Saturday. I drove the entire way from Irvine to St. George, and it was not fun. Yuck. But then I got a nice little break until I went home again, a week and a half later! I went home on August 2nd because the next day I went through the temple. Then the next day my mom drove back up with us so she could spent the rest of the week with me! It was really fun to have her here.
Wednesday was my birthday, so we spent the afternoon shopping for missionary clothes, so much fun. And can I just say, the calf-length skirt is quite possibly the least-flattering skirt length ever to be invented. We found some good stuff though, and I feel that I did pretty well for missionary clothes. There are a few more things I need to get before I need to go, but I am pretty much set. That night I invited Robyn, Kim and my sister and we all went to a Cirque du Soleil show at the E-Center. It was amazing! Some of the things they do really are unbelievable unless you see it yourself. Afterwards we went to my favorite, The Cheesecake Factory. I got chocolate coconut cheesecake and it was amazing. They even wrote on my plate “Happy Birthday Catlin!” Apparently there is no need for another i.
On Thursday I went with my mom up to Logan for a wedding. On Monday when I went through the temple my mom’s friend’s daughter went through at the same time, and she got married on Thursday so we went. It was so fun to be able to actually go to the sealing instead of just waiting outside like I have done before. After the wedding we met up with my friend Jodi who goes to school at USU. She showed us around campus and we got some Aggie ice cream, which is way better than the BYU creamery ice cream (that was for you Jodi, although I have no idea if you even read this). She also showed us the crazy steep hill she has to walk up to get to campus, and after I saw that I will never complain about the hills here. Well that is probably not true, but at least I won’t complain quite as much. Afterwards we went to the wedding dinner, then we drove back to Provo at about 8. Apparently that day there had been a bunch of wildfires in northern Utah, so it was smokey and dirty and windy the whole way back. At one point in the drive it seemed like we were driving through a blizzard, but instead of snow it was dirt and debris. It was insane. But thankfully we got home safe and were not blown off the road.
On Friday my mom went home. So sad! It was fun to have her up here. That night I dragged Robyn along and went up to Sandy to my friend David’s wedding reception. This was my third wedding in 8 days- last week we went to Kristen’s wedding reception, also in Sandy. Anyway, we went through the line and chatted for a few minutes, then I ran into some friends from high school and we decided to go to dinner. After we rushed back to Provo to the movie theater so we could see Julie & Julia, which I thought was a really cute movie! I highly recommend it.
Wow. Sorry this post is so freak long. I could have separated it into different parts, but I decided against it. As you can see, it has been a busy month! And this month is not going to be any better. A lot will be changing. I am sad to see this time in my life coming to an end, but I am excited for what the future holds!
