Day 42
Today was the last day of our coach tour, so sad. We started the day by leaving the hostel (last one- woohoo!) and driving to Stratford where we were dropped off to do whatever we wanted. The four of us decided to go to Shakespeare’s birthplace house and check in out. That took about 30 minutes, and then we decided to walk around and see what else was around. Neither Robyn nor I were too excited about Stratford because neither of us are big Shakespeare fans- gasp! We felt like horrible people the whole day because I swear everyone else on the trip is in love. So if you are a big Shakespeare fan, I apologize. We ended up just walking around, taking some cute pictures including Asian-style pictures (these include non-smiling in front of cool places and also pictures with you facing the cool place, and it is not actually in the picture). So that was pretty much the extent of Stratford because we only stayed for a few hours. Next we were on the bus again for the short journey to Warwick castle- our last sight together.
I had been to the castle twice before and loved it, so I was really excited. But this time it wasn’t so fun. There were tons and tons of people there, so if you wanted to do anything at all you had to wait in a line that was at least 15 minutes long. And I am talking about a line to get into something like state rooms or the dungeon or something, so not something that would usually have a line. After waiting and climbing to the tallest tower and then coming back down we decided to find the peacock garden. It was really cool- they had a bunch of peacocks all over the place just walking around and chilling. Robyn tried to get one of them to spread out its wings, but alas, it was not meant to be. Or she just didn’t want to scare it and have it attack her, either way. After the peacocks it was time to go. We boarded the bus for the last time and were off to London to stay the night before travel day tomorrow.
We got to London at about 5, so we had one last night to hang in London and do whatever we wanted. We half-jokingly toyed with the idea of going to see another show just because it would have been funny, but we didn’t. The four of us and another girl from our group went to Embankment to go find a statue because Beth (the other girl) still needed to do an elective sight for one of our classes. We totally wanted to go because this was the statue of William Tyndale. Let me give you a little background on why we wanted to go- so Robyn and I had planned to go to the Tyndale statue weeks ago, but we could never find him, or the garden he was in was closed, or we just ran out of time. So it became a joke for us to say “Tyndale?” when going by any and all statues no matter where we were just because we never actually saw the statue. So anyway, as you can imagine were we excited to finally see him on the last possible day in London. We wandered around Embankment Gardens but we could not find him. This was so disappointing. We had almost given up hope to get back on the tube but then decided to cross the street to see if we had missed it somewhere. And of course, there was another part of the garden over there that we hadn’t seen before. We rushed through the garden and sure enough, the last statue was good ol’ Tyndale! Robyn was especially excited.
After this amazing and dramatic scene Robyn and I left the others to go over to the London Eye- we thought it would be really cute to spend our last night going on it. We walked by the river and took some pictures of it and the Eye and Big Ben and other scenes. We were walking across Westminster Bridge and who do we run into? None other than the Chapmans doing some last sight-seeing before leaving like us. Seriously, what are the chances of that? So we chatted and said goodbye to them and then went over to the Eye. We waited a little while because we wanted it to be good and dark before we went on. It was fun- everything was all lit up and you could see London for miles. I am really going to miss this place. After the eye we went back to the hotel and went to bed.
