Vacation - Day 3

Today we drove down to Connecticut. We started out by going to the Mark Twain house/museum in Hartford. We watched a movie and then went and toured the house. It was a very unique and interesting house, but I think I enjoyed the Lego recreation back in the museum more than the actual house…so probably not, but it was cool. Also during this Conner decided he was going to start doing an impression of Mark Twain (he does voices, they are fun…) and started talking about his “time steamboat” he was going to take back to Hannibal, Missouri. If you know my brother and have actually heard him do this voice, this is funny. If not…it is pretty much just weird. But if you are wondering, a time steamboat is just like a regular steamboat, except for the fact that it is also a time machine. So moral of the story, next time you run into to Conner ask him to do this voice for you because it is hilarious.

So side note here, one of the reasons we went to Connecticut was that I wanted to because that is where Gilmore Girls is set. Yes, it is true. I love that show so much, and I really wanted to go there. Unfortunately the town where it is set, Stars Hollow, doesn’t actually exist, but if I did you bet I would have gone there. So…that is all.

Then we drove down to New Haven and found the Yale visitor’s center. From there we started our walking tour of campus with our student tour guide. The campus is so pretty! It is very different from BYU in that everything is spread out all over New Haven instead of just having everything all together. One of the coolest things I liked about Yale was that they have colleges in which everyone is assigned to. But they aren’t like academic colleges, they are residential colleges. You are assigned to a residential college and you live in the dorms and have your own dining hall and other stuff. We visited Branford college, which is the college Rory is in in Gilmore Girls. Another of my favorite things was when we went to the Sterling Memorial library, which is the largest library at Yale. I just laughed when we went into it because it is literally designed like a cathedral. We only went into the main lobby part, but it was intense. Anyway, we also saw the statue of Theodore Woolsey which is in Old Campus and rubbed his toe. This is apparently a good luck thing, and his toe is very shiny from all the touching. Although I suspect they purposely rub it with something to make it look like it has been rubbed a lot…

So after the tour we of course went to the Yale Bookstore so we could purchase various memorabilia. Then we went to Frank Pepe’s pizza, which was recommended by our tour guide. It was amazing! After eating we finished our day and drove back to the hotel, and of course the four of us slept the entire way there.
