Day 12

Since we didn’t have class or any other plans today, Robyn and I decided we would maybe try and see 2 shows! So we left at 10 to go around to the box offices and see what their policies were on student tickets. We went to the theaters for Mamma Mia, Les Mis, The 39 Steps, and Zorro (yes, there is now a Zorro the Musical). Our best matinee option was Zorro, so we got tickets for that. Then at 39 Steps the guy told us they would be able to get us tickets, but we had to come back an hour before the show started. So after all that, walking through Leicester Square and Piccadilly Circus for an hour and a half, we went back to our flat to chill for a few hours.

We went to Zorro at 3! I was really disappointed because they didn’t have a poster for me to buy since the show is still in previews. But the man told me to come back next week and they should have one. The show was actually surprisingly good. The story is not really one of the recent Zorro movies- from what I can tell it is about the same as one of the really old movies. They had some really cool choreography and they did some cool magic type of special effects where Zorro would do stuff like disappear and reappear in a new place. And also the actors were really talented, especially the lady that played Inez the gypsy queen- she had an amazing voice. After the play we decided to just hang around until 7 when we needed to go buy the tickets. I had the brilliant idea we should go over to Covent Garden and eat and stuff before going back over to Piccadilly where the play was. But that turned out to be really stupid because every other person in the entire world had the same idea and they were all there in Covent Garden. So we left.

We went and found some sort of out-of-the-way place to eat that had Italian food, and our food was so hot that I burned my finger on my plate at one time. Also, there was a little candle at our table for ambiance I guess and at one point I accidentally blew it out and a little trail of smoke was coming off of it for like an hour I swear. So I didn’t do too well there, but the food was pretty good. We then went over and bought our tickets and waited at the theater until they would let us in because there were tons and tons of people outside and it was raining. We went down into the theater after a few minutes and I bought my poster, then we went to our seats. As we were waiting we wrote a really good postcard to our roommates (so if you are reading this, be excited!). About 10 minutes before the play started these people came over to us and said we were in their seats. It was weird, because we were in their seats, but we were also in our seats. Somehow they had sold our seats twice! So they sorted it out and put those people somewhere else and everything was just dandy. The show was super funny- it is not a musical, it is about this guy who goes to the theatre one night and meets a woman who tells him she has top secret information and is going to be killed. Basically the rest of the play is the man running from the law and getting into all sorts of ridiculous situations. There are only 4 people in it- one is the main character, one is a woman who plays 3 different roles, and the other 2 are these two guys who play over 100 roles put together, so as you can imagine it was hilarious. So that was the end of our amazing day of plays.
