Today was my second week in the Lea Valley ward. Unfortunately, the Victoria Line- which goes right to the station we get off- was closed for the weekend. So we had to take a different route which included the tube and a bus. We (me and two other girls in my ward, the other four we running later) left a little earlier than usual because we weren’t sure how long it would take us to get there. We actually ended up getting there about 20 minutes earlier than planned. Some things I have decided I am grateful for at home are 1) a car to drive from my house right to the church and 2) the fact that the church is most likely less than 5 minutes away. It is so foreign for me to have to wake up at 7 so I can get to my 10 o’ clock church on time. I am lucky. Since we didn’t have an assignment yet we went and found the 1st counselor to see where he wanted us to serve in the ward. Mandy and I ended up volunteering for nursery duty, which I was really excited for because I thought "oh cute, I will get to play with a bunch of cute little British kids with cute accents and it will be super fun”. (Note: sorry if you are offended I just put a period outside the quotation mark. That is the way they do it here, and I think it is better, so just deal with it.) So we go to the nursery room and there are only 2 kids and another leader besides us so we figured it would be a piece of cake. But then one of the kids started freaking out, I think because her friend that is usually there was gone on holiday. Oh man, I have never seen such a small child freak out that much! And I have seen my fair share of freak outs because I once worked at a day care full of rich little snobby children. But I have never seen a tantrum like that- mainly just because she wouldn’t give in, no matter what. And this was nursery! So I really hope there is another leader there again next week because that was who was mainly dealing with this girl the whole time. Especially since there are supposed to be at least 5 there next week- ah!
For dinner a bunch of us went over to the Chapman’s flat. Sister Chapman made some stir-fry that was really yummy. After we ate we all sat and chatted for a while and it was really fun. I really like going to family’s houses for stuff like that because especially being in college you don’t really get all that much family interaction and it makes me feel more at home, which is a nice feeling to have.
