Day 3

Today we left the Rainbow hostel- I can’t say I was too upset about that. Hostel living isn’t exactly my favorite thing in the world, and I am really excited to be in London in our own flats. But I am still really enjoying the time we are spending in Ireland while we are here. We rode our coach to a place called the Rock of Cashel which I always want to say rock of castle but it is really cashel. It is a group of medieval buildings that are mostly intact.

The main thing is a monastery surrounded by a graveyard, then there is another building that has some old artifacts and stuff they found there. There is a little chapel there that they are going to restore the ceiling in pretty soon- you can’t really tell right now, but apparently there are some paintings on the ceiling that they are going to reveal but they have to do it using UV rays. Anyway. So we looked at that and saw some amazing views from it because it is sort of on a hill and you could see some of the countryside below.

We went to dinner in the town of Kilkenny before going to our hostel which was just a few miles outside. It was funny because as we were driving by a pub, there was a sign outside that was advertising an Independence day celebration the next night! Who knew. We went to a different pub for dinner which was the old inn of a woman who was thought to be a witch. Downstairs in the pub they even had a creepy fake witch that you can sit by if you are really lucky.

We stayed the night in a castle! It was really more of a tower, but it was still a part of a castle. I guess some person just owned this random tower and decided they wanted to make it into a hostel, it is beyond me why they would want to, but nevertheless they did.

So the room I stayed in was about halfway up the tower, and we had to climb the classic steep stairs (not as steep as other castles) to get to it. It was great. The dining hall looked like something out of Harry Potter and we even had some cool grounds and the
re was a wall around it you could walk on and everything. I am thinking that will be the most exciting hostel I will ever stay in.
