Day 18
Today the four of us started the day by going to Covent Garden to look around for a while. And wow, comparing a Friday morning there to a Saturday afternoon- man it was dead in comparison. We looked around and went to St. Pauls’s church (not cathedral) which is right there in the middle- the pillars outside are where the opening scene from Pygmalion/My Fair Lady is based. At 12 we met up with a friend of mine from school who just finished an intership in Paris and is now visiting London for a few days before going home. We went to Wagamama in Convent Garden for Lunch- going to Wagamama is kind of a family tradition for me, so I was excited to go there. We went at the perfect time and didn’t have to wait at all to get in, but on the way out the line went all the way up the stairs and outside for a while- I would never wait that long to eat there. After lunch we split up and Mandy and Marissa went home because they had other plans later. The three of us went over near Trafalgar Square to get tickets for the show we wanted to go to that night- Marguerite. Then we walked around the square a little, decided against climbing on the huge lions since it was rainy and they were really high up, and went over to the National Gallery which is at the north end of the square. We then realized we wanted the National PORTRAIT Gallery and not the National Gallery, so we left and went there instead. They had some really cool portraits there; I especially liked the ones of the Tudors since I have been really interested in them lately.
After browsing the gallery for a while Robyn and I went home so she could do her laundry and we could rest for a little bit. Then we went back to meet my friend again and we went to dinner and then to the show. The show . . . let me just say that I would never recommend it to another church member. It wasn’t horrible, it is about this French woman named Marguerite (hence the name of the show) during World War II who is the mistress of a German general. However, she falls in love with this guy half her age and it ends up messing a lot of things up and then she dies at the end! So stupid. But the reason I wouldn’t recommend it is that they smoke a lot during the show so you can smell that a lot, and then toward the end there is a little purposeful “wardrobe malfunction” with her top . . . and it was a little questionable. So yeah, moral of the story is you probably don’t want to go to that show, and especially don’t take a date unless you want a really awkward night!
