Today marked the beginning of the 3rd week of our program. It is going so fast! I am really trying to enjoy it and live life to the fullest because I know I will never have another opportunity like this again. So we went to class as usual this morning, and in class we talked about how history and language have layers and we can see this very apparently in the architecture and old parts of London. Also at one point Dr. Chapman (we call him D-Chap) sang a song about the Angles, Saxons and Jutes. If you don’t know what that means try Wikipedia, it is an amazing thing. That song was basically the best thing I have ever heard in my entire life I am pretty sure. After class a group of us went down the street and went to a creperie. It was amazing! I think it was pretty close to being authentic because all the workers were French and a bunch of the customers were speaking French as well. I got like an almond/cream/maple syrup crepe and it was sooo good. I will definitely be going back there at some point. After the creperie we went on over to the Tower of London which is one of our required sights. We got in and waited for our tour, and we talked for a second to one of the Beefeaters who was a woman.
It turns out she is actually the first and only Beefeater so far! I was very impressed. We went on a tour and learned about all the gross and horrible stuff that has happened at the tower. Also the white tower, which is the big palace in the center, is currently being cleaned and some stones on the outside being replaced, so it should look really cool when it is done. We also went and saw the crown jewels, which are amazing and really shiny. it is intimidating to go into the room where they are held because there are these huge metal doors that would crush you to death if you got caught under them.
After we had sufficiently looked around at the Tower me, Robyn and Mandy sat on a bench by the White Tower and people/pigeon watched and rested for a little while.
Then we rode over to Victoria station to find some food before going to Wicked! We found this restaurant called Noodle Noodle (tee-hee) which (for my family) is very similar to Wagamama but not as good. After we ate we went across the street to Wicked! I will admit, I actually saw Wicked at the exact same theater about a month ago when I was in London with my fam. But most of the leads were different, so it really was a different experience. As could be expected, it was great! I now want to transfer to Shiz University and study linguification.
