Day 24

Happy Pioneer Day! We contemplated dressing up as Pioneers today but alas, we haven’t the costumes. Robyn and I did match our outfits today though and it was so cute. We both have plaid shorts and the same exact white shirt. But today started our “long weekend” of the trip, which just means that we have today as well as the rest of the weekend off. Some people are traveling to Paris and other places, but we decided we would just stick around London. We started the day by going to the Mamma Mia box office to see if we could get student tickets. Of course a huge group of Asians were before us (the Asian tourists- the ones actually from Asia- are a close second in my list of bane of my existence) so we waited a while. But we got the very last 20 pound tickets for the night, so that was exciting. Then the four of us (I assume you know what I mean by now) went over to Embankment Pier to get ferry tickets for Greenwich. We got there at 10:30 but had to wait until 11 to get on. We got on and rode down the river to St. Katherine’s Pier, where we had to change boats. But we ended up waiting there for about 45 minutes before a boat finally came. By the time we got to Greenwich it was already after 1 and I was really sad because I wanted to see the time ball drop at 1 but we missed it. So it took us forever to get there and we were all tired because we had been sitting at the pier forever in the sun (the first really sunny/hot day of the trip) and we were drained. But we walked over to the Maritime Museum and looked around for a while. I’m not going to lie, it wasn’t that interesting to me. I guess I just don’t really see the appeal of ships and the sea as much as others do. That would probably be a museum that my brothers would really like though. We left there and walked up a really steep hill to the Royal Observatory. It also wasn’t the most exciting of places, but it was fun because they have the Meridian Line there- longitude 0 degrees- and every place on earth is measured by the distance east or west of the line. So we took some cute pictures standing on either side of the line and such, then decided to call it a day. On the way back to the pier we went past Greenwich University and the library, which is called the Dreadnought Library. I got a kick out of that. We took the ferry back to London, which didn’t take nearly as long this time, and went hope to recuperate for a while from the sun.

Then we went to Mamma Mia! I have been really excited to see this show for a while. Six of us went- me, Robyn, Mandy, Marissa, Diana and Beth- and we pretty much all had a single seat, although I was close to Marissa and Robyn. I
really liked the show a lot! The whole time I was watching it I was missing my mom because it just reminded me of her so much, mainly because I think it is a show we would have really enjoyed going to together. So mom, we have to go to the movie together when I get home, even though you have already seen it. Deal? Probably the best part was at the very end after they did the bows and stuff because then they did three famous songs and the whole audience was on their feet dancing and singing with them. One of the ladies sitting next to me was super into it! I felt as though I would be elbowed to death so I tried to stand as far away as possible from her. So that was the end of the night, and I love the fact that I have already seen 3 musicals just this week.
